A change in perspective ...

It's amazing how God can very quickly change my perspective around.

Shortly after I wrote the posting about my swearing issue, Jon & Blake decided to run to Menards to pick up a few things. I was getting ready to take a shower, when Jon called saying that I needed to meet him at the old shop because he had a fire and I needed to get Blake. I still had my jammies and bathrobe on, but I quickly ran out the door and met the boys at the shop.

As I pulled into the driveway, I could see smoke billowing overhead. Apparently, on the other side of Black River School, a house was on fire. I picked up Blake and we drove to the parking lot of the school, where many other gawkers were located.

I have no idea what caused the fire, but from what I could see, there was a lot of smoke coming out of the roof and windows, mostly by the attic. There was a time when they were using the tower ladder to spray water into the attic, and at that point, we couldn't even see the house due to the heavy smoke.

Blake and I watched the firefighters do everything they could to get the fire out. I silently prayed for the owners of the house, that they had gotten out safely. And the amount of water that went into the house ... I can't imagine that very many possessions are going to be salvaged.

While I was watching the house burn, and the firefighters working on it, I also prayed for my hubby who was there working. At that point, my prayers became a plead to God ... "God, please don't let anything happen to my husband at this fire. Please let him take care of the fire very safely without harm. And please protect him so he'll come back home ..."

It totally put everything into a new perspective. I would do anything I needed to do, including changing my frustrated attitude and my swearing, if I meant that I could have my husband back home with me. I never want to get a phone call or a visit from the fire chief saying that something happened to Jon. He's the love of my life, and he means the world to me.

And a little issue like swearing means nothing when your house is on fire. It's all a matter of perspective.

(P.S. Now ... as I was writing THIS post, Jon called from the ER. My heart leaped into my throat. Turns out, one of the other firefighters was showing signs of heat exhaustion so Jon went with him to the ER. Even though I'm sad that one of the firefighters is dealing with heat exhaustion, I'm sending up prayers of thanks that my Jon is okay. Yes, the joys of being a wife of a firefighter.)
