Quite the boring title, but I really didn't know what else to call it. I realized that I haven't blogged in a week, and I'm sure you're wondering how things are going over here in the Cusack world. Well, here's a quick recap of the previous week:
~ Last Friday was Blake's last day of 1st grade, so now he's officially a 2ND GRADER!!! There were not one, not two, but THREE assemblies on Friday so I took the morning off work (he only had a half day) so I could be there. His first assembly was K-1st grades in the gym for awards. The next assembly was in each classroom so the teachers can give everybody in their classes special awards (Blake got a Math award, no surprise here!). The third assembly was a retirement assembly for the principal. All the kids in the school sang a goodbye song to him and I think every parent (as well as all the teachers and even the principal himself) had the tears flowing. Now we have a female principal, and I'm looking forward to what next year will bring.
~ Now that school is done for the summer, Blake is back at Toddlerville, which is one of his most favorite places. He loves going there and hanging out with all his friends from last summer and winter break. I love it that I'm back to working full-time (and then some) hours again. I love working long days. I feel that I get a lot more accomplished now, which makes me very happy!
~ Speaking of being happy ... thank goodness for a medication that is actually working for me and my anxiety!! :-)
~ As I mentioned in my previous blog entry, we had a fundraising carnival for my friend Pam this past Saturday. We had a great time, and the weather even cooperated with us! Although not very many people came to it (I would guess that about 3/4 of the people there were volunteers), any money that was raised was definitely more than Pam had prior to this. So even though it was under $1K, I know God will use the money for His glory. I was thrilled that my mugs sold for $19 dollars (total), and my bee blanket went for $30. Unfortunately, we didn't have any bids for the princess blanket. I think there will be future fundraisers for Pam, so hopefully somebody will want to buy that blanket for their little princess. (It's always so difficult to know what "random" blankets people will want to buy. That's why I make blankets geared to the person ... SO much easier.)
Unfortunately, when there was almost an hour left before the carnival was done, a house two doors away started on fire. The family who lives there was actually at our carnival. I was so sad to see their house up in smoke, and it was pretty terrifying for those who lived there. But as sad as it was, I used the opportunity to show Blake what a "real" house fire looks like, and what daddy does when he needs to go to one. He saw all the fire trucks pull up, watched them haul the hoses off the trucks and spray the water ... then he got bored and ran back to the bouncy house.
Well, at least we had a little bit of a teaching moment, anyway. I'm sad that the road had to be closed due to the fire (maybe we would've gotten more people to come if this didn't happen??), but the fact is that it did happen. So I'm praying that this family will get back on their feet very soon. And I'm also praying that Pam will receive all the money she needs to raise for her missionary work.
So ... that's pretty much it in a nutshell of how the last week has been.
Life is good ... but God's faithfulness is even better!!
I love that last line! Life is good - but God's faithfulness IS better! Thank you for your help on Saturday! It was a lot of fun (and a lot of work - I swear my feet still hurt) but a great encouragement to me. My cash budget is now at 60% YES!!! PRAISE GOD!!! - Pam
